What does your family do when it is so so so hot outside and you have to go out to take a walk and to go potty? What do you do to help your dogs stay cool? My momma has created a few things that help us stay cool and fresh when it’s hot here in Dominican Republic.
Our momma tries her best to keep us cooled off. She also tries to take us outside early before it gets hot for our big daily walk. We usually head out between 5:30 and 6:30 AM for an hour or so. The evening walk is a little bit more difficult. The sidewalk is hot. The dirt is hot. Even the water is hot. What can we do? Here is what our momma does for us.
Hot Outside. Cool off the dog. Take a regular bandana and lay some ice inside.
Lay a bandana out and put some ice cubes inside. You can put them inside a plastic bag if you do not want the wetness but the wetness helps us to stay cool also and we like the wet neck effect.
Hot Outside. Cool off the dog. Roll the bandana up with the ice inside.

The ice doesn’t last forever but usually there is a corner store or someplace where you can get a few ice cubes to refresh the bandana.
Hot Outside. Cool off the dog. If you forget get a plastic bag, fill with ice.
Momma forgot our pretty ice bandanas yesterday. She just thought we were going to take a short walk but we wanted to take a little Barrio walk. She got a plastic bag in the Colmado and put some ice inside and put it around our neck. It was definitely not any type of a fashion statement but it did the job and kept us cool and fresh.

Momma also uses Mushers Secret on our feet. It keeps our paws a little bit protected from the heat. It is especially good for using in the snow…which would be great if we had snow here. But the stuff is a soft wax that coats the paw. It also is a nice paw moisturizer so Buenagente and I have nice soft shakable paws.
Momma says she is going to try and make us some shoes but I’m not sure how that will go over. We are more of the bare-feet kinds dogs.
