Summer Care For Us Dogs

Please take care of us when it is hot outside. We love you so and want to be with you all the time but sometimes you have to be the boss and tell us no because you know what is best for us doggies and pets.

Our humans have to say no sometimes because they sometimes know what is best for us even if we do not.

Make sure we always have water available, cold water is a really big plus, and many of us enjoy chewing on an ice cube sometimes.

If the pavement is really hot remember we do not have shoes on our feet and sometimes it hurts us.

If your pet has short hair or exposed skin they can get sunburned. If you have to take us out in the sun put some sun screen on us. The kind people use on their babies are good for us doggies also.

Please make sure we have shade. It is hot out there and we do not really like to get a sun tan like our humans do.

My mommy puts an icecube under my collar to cool me off sometimes. I like that. It feels really good.

Really important is to make sure to groom us well. When we get dirty it is harder for us to cool off. Remember also if we do go swimming in the sea or chemically treated water we should get rinsed off afterwards, just like you like to take a shower after. The salt and chemicals can hurt us.

Please use something to keep the fleas and ticks off of us. Those things really feel nasty walking around our skin and we cannot get them off. My mommy used Frontline or Advantage and I am happy to say I have not had a flea or tick on my body for a long long time.

Remember that most of us are afraid of storms. Some of us are very afraid. Keep us in a safe place so we do not go crazy and hurt ourselves. When there is a big storm please provide us with a safe and secure place out of the rain and weather.
