My mom and I were relaxing in the bed last night. She rolled the tv in so we could watch a little before sleeping. We usually do not have the tv in the bedroom so this was a special occasion. Little did I know she HAD to bring in the camera also. I think she is in love with that camera.

So we were just hanging out and relaxing as much as possible with that stupid camera in my face.

Teli, Dominican Dog, in bed relaxing

I decided to get more comfortable and there she went again with the camera. I was getting tired and by this time I did not care if she had the camera focused on me or not. I was on my back so comfortable, exposing all my private parts. When I saw the picture she took I made her crop out those most embarrassing private parts on my underbelly. She called it my sexy pose. I just call it embarrassing. I mean, common mom..

Teli, The Dominican Dog, getting comfortable

I wiggled around a little bit, found my stuffed cow named, imagine this, Cow-cow and passed out for the night. I love my Cow-cow. My friend Jana originally gave it to my grandma, Mammy. When I came to live here my mom thought that I would like it more than Mammy. She was right. Thank you Jana for the present and thank you Mammy for letting me keep it.

Teli in bed with Cow-cow

I hope mom does not decide to bring the camera to bed every night. Wont she be surprised if someday I learn how to take pictures. I would wait until she is sleeping and snap away. Then I would post them on her blog for all the world to see. See how she would like it. On my training list..learn how to use camera..hehehe.

Last Sunday mom took me for a walk about. We ended up at what the local Dominican humans call Parque del Palomas …Pigeon Park in English. It is near one of my favorite places at the Ruinas of San Francisco.

Theres a nice place where I like to sniff around in the grass where it is nice and calm where I can watch humans and still feel safe. After I do some sniffing I like to lay down in the grass, relax and look around.

This day there were strange humans dressed up in different costumes walking by. I was checking these strange looking things out when a camera crew came into my space along with some smelly black humans. They smelt like a car that is dripping oil. When I see a puddle of black motor oil on the street, this is what they smelt like. It was not pleasing to my sensitive snout. I gave mom the look “What the heck is that” and she explained that it was a Carnival group called Los Tiznaos or in English The Stained Ones. They smear black motor oil on their bodies and ask humans for money. A very strange human custom for sure.

Anyhow, these oily black humans were posing for pictures when one of them came over and tried to scare me.

One human looking man came near to me and mom and growled at us making a yucky face. His friends were laughing at him because he was being silly. He did not frighten me at all. I was brave.

I was just wondering why in the world would these humans paint themselves in such a way. But, I have learned that humans are not easy to figure out. I only need to accept them for all their strangeness and weird quirks. Gotta love’em.

Mom took me for another Walk-about around Colonial Zone. This time we went up the hill to the Ruins of San Francisco. This is an old and spooky looking place. It has so many interesting smells. Smells from the past to the present.

I think I smelt a pirate. Mom said Sir Francis Drake destroyed this place and took over Santo Domingo around the year 1586 so maybe thats who I caught a whiff of. Cannot believe my sniffer works from that far back.

Mom said the main part of this monastery started being built in 1509. I really could care less about all those dates and stuff. All I know is the place is really old the same as most of the Zona Colonial. It looks really cool too.

I thought it was interesting to see all those birds mom called pigeons all over the building. Mom said the park that I was in the neighbors call it pigeon park so maybe thats why all those birds are there. I am wondering where is the dog park (I can make a joke too).

There are all sorts of strange rocks laying around the yard here. I wanted to check it out but mom said she did not want me going in there this visit. I think the place is haunted. I was a little nervous and it was not because of all the people and dogs around. This picture has two shadows on the far fence. Maybe they are ghosts??

The first day I came to live in my new house my mommy took me for a walk. When I got home there were ticks all over my body. They were in my ears and between my toes. My hair is not very long so they really couldn’t hide there (In Spanish they call these nasty blood sucking creatures Garrapatas). She didn’t even think to check for them so when Aunt Kay came to bring me some special food that she sells in her pet store called Pet Plaza (I will write more about the store later), she checked me out. She said that she had this special tool to remove the ticks that she used for all her animals and she would bring it for me. She said there are lots of ticks in Dominican Republic.

The ticks here that have visited my body are much smaller than the ones my mom saw in USA (look at the big bugger at the bottom of this post). She tried to get pictures but she needs one of those really good cameras so these will just have to do. At least you will get the idea.

Normal size tick – garrapata. You can see the top of the alcohol bottle to gage the size.

Tcik – Garrapata close up and lightened-up to be seen better.

That night my mom said she had tick dreams. She told me that once she got Lyme Disease from a tick in USA and she has had a fear of these blood sucking pests ever since. She told me she heard form some people that there is Lyme Disease in Dominican Republic and others say it is not here. So really who knows? If anyone has any real information about this you can email me.

Deer tick from USA

(My mommy’s friend Phil gave us this ugly picture County Photographer.com)

Aunt Kay came the next day and showed mom how to use the tool its called O’Tom Tick Twister or in Spanish Gancho Para Garrapatas. (Mommy has some of the tools in our house for sale for $189RDPesos if you live in the area of Colonial Zone you can send me an email teli@colonialzone-dr.com and we can arrange for you to get yours). She got the tick in the tool and —all gone!– She put those nasty ticks in some alcohol and we watched them die! Bad bad ticks!
