Mom takes me down Calle las Damas usually. She lets me off the leash now when we are on that street if there are no cars. If a car does come down the street she jumps to the middle of the road to make it slow down and calls me to get on the leash. I am just not very car-smart so it is good she is watching out for me.

When we get to my park, Parque Rosado or Plaza Pellerano Castro as it is officially called, I get to greet my dog neighbors and dog friends if they are out at the same time. I like to see who I can meet and greet. It is my park and I need to know who comes and goes at all times. It is my duty.

Mom has not taken pictures of all my friends because she does not always carry her camera. I like her to take pictures but sometimes it is nice when she is not always trying to get me to do something she thinks is cute. Sometimes I just want to play without that thing in my face.

This is my friend Vago. He lives down the street from me. I like him but his daddy always keeps him on his leash because he likes to run so we cannot play like I really like to.

Sometimes Vago (which is short for Vagabond) cannot come outside when I am there but he usually watches mom and I pass by his house from his balcony. Can you see him peeking out from his balcony?

Then there is my friend Clifford. He is is funny little red dog. I like jumping around with him. His mommy is really nice also.

One of my favorite playmates is this new little puppy. I know it she will get big soon but I need to teach her the ropes in MY park. She looks up to me and I so enjoy jumping around with Lalo. She has really pretty eyes too.

A new picture mom took as an update to my friends page today (Oct. 14). I like playing with Blanco. He is a little too energetic for me sometimes but he makes me get lots of exercise.

When there is no one to play with I like to watch the chickens down at the Marine base through the fence. If they make their way into the park I give chase. They need to stay near their home so they do not get hurt. Mom highlighted them so you can see them.

I decided to get more comfortable and there she went again with the camera. I was getting tired and by this time I did not care if she had the camera focused on me or not. I was on my back so comfortable, exposing all my private parts. When I saw the picture she took I made her crop out those most embarrassing private parts on my underbelly. She called it my sexy pose. I just call it embarrassing. I mean, common mom..

I wiggled around a little bit, found my stuffed cow named, imagine this, Cow-cow and passed out for the night. I love my Cow-cow. My friend Jana originally gave it to my grandma, Mammy. When I came to live here my mom thought that I would like it more than Mammy. She was right. Thank you Jana for the present and thank you Mammy for letting me keep it.

I hope mom does not decide to bring the camera to bed every night. Wont she be surprised if someday I learn how to take pictures. I would wait until she is sleeping and snap away. Then I would post them on her blog for all the world to see. See how she would like it. On my training list..learn how to use camera..hehehe.

A friend of my moms, Craig, whos dog Shadow just had her operation so she would not have any babies offered to take us in his truck. My mom was so excited. I just was not sure when he pulled up to the house and we approached the vehicle.

Shadow was happy and jumping all over. She made me nervous. I do not ride in cars that much and having this dog, the owner of the truck, claiming the back seat, I just did not want to go there.

They finally let me sit in the front seat on moms lap even though I was shedding badly and getting her all hair covered she didn’t mind.

We finally got to the beach and we all jumped out of the truck. It was wonderful!

Shadow had been there before and was acting crazy digging around in the sand. I just could not understand what she was doing and why was she digging when there was nothing there. To each their own I guess.

Mom, Craig and Shadow headed to the water. There were small waves rolling onto the shore. They frightened me. I so wanted to join them playing in the water. I kept trying to go into the water but as soon as it touched my toes I ran away. Mom was calling me and Craig and Shadow looked like they were having such fun. I so wanted to join in.

Mom kept calling and I know she wanted me to join her so I decided to make her happy. I stepped back a few steps, closed my eyes and ran! I felt the water on my toes and leaped into the air. I hit the water past the wave and swam to mom. As she reached out to grab me I dodged her hand and went toward Craig and Shadow for a few strokes. Then I saw Shadow splashing and I decided that this was enough for 1 day and headed back to the safety of dry land. Mom was laughing as she came out of the water. I made her happy. I am such a good girl!

I spent the rest of the day relaxing and just watching Shadow playing in the water or digging a hole non stop. Where does she get all that energy?

We ate some yummy fried fish, some lambi and some clams then it was time to go home. I really did not eat the clams. I didn’t like them but the other stuff was good.

I did get into the back seat for the ride home. Shadow let me as long as I stayed on my own side. I was looking out the window and enjoying the breeze on my nose. Shadow fell asleep right away. No wonder with all the playing she was doing. She wore herself out.

When we got home first thing we did was take a shower. That cool water felt so good rinsing the salt and sand off my body. Mom did not even use the towel on me. I just shook off and went to the sofa to rest after my great day at Playa Palenque. I hope we can do it again soon.

He decided to take Shadow to the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña also known as UNPHU. They have a Veterinary Clinic there that is very good. My mom took my sister, whom I never met, Sniffy there when she was hit by a Jeepeta in Bani and they took care of her very good.

This is the report that Shadows dad Craig sent to my mom..
“Well Shadow had her surgery on Tuesday at UNPHU Vet. Clinic. – these are very professional people who did a great job, there is almost always one of the Doctors that speaks English (actually most of them except the desk ladies), the cost was RD $4300 – about a quarter of what the private vet wanted. She was there for three days (Dropped off Monday am and picked up Thursday am). They did pre-op Monday, gave antibiotics, etc…. Made sure she was good to go for surgery on Tuesday am, and then a day of recovery.”

I am sure that poor Shadow hurt for a few days but when she fully recovers she will be so much happier. She will not have those nasty boys after her every few months bugging her and trying to hurt her. When she gets all better Shadows dad said he will take me and mom to the beach to celebrate. I cannot wait!

My 2 sisters dogs (Sniffy and Stuff) that I never met were neutered. There are so many dogs in the world without homes. It is very responsible to do this for your best friend that you love. If you want a dog please adopt. There are many great animals that need your love and care. And be responsible Spay and Neuter them.

Anyhow, my friend Juan Carlos who has a taxi business called JC Taxi, said he would take us in his taxi. We picked up Mamita, my moms great friend, and we were off. I have not been in a car for a long time and I was a little afraid to get in but once we started on our way I was enjoying it.

When we got to the beach I was so enjoying the sand on my toes. I think I come from beach dogs because it just felt so right to be there. I am a Caribbean dog.

I went to the water and bounced around there for a few minutes with mom but I need to work my way into getting used to it. It was fun and I can’t wait to really get into some swimming sometime soon.

We checked things out and I got to take in all the beach smells. There were a few local dogs trying to check me out but the man that takes care of the chairs liked me and he made those doggies go away. I felt very special.

Then we decided to eat. Mom and Mamita got fish. It smelt so good. Mom shared some of hers with me.

Then she had to play with the ugly fish head. She can be so silly at times. She told me I had to kiss the fish head. I did it just to get her and that nasty fish head out of my face. Moms…..whats a Teli to do with them…? hehe..

After we ate we decided to rest a bit. I had to be on the lounge chair. Me and mom were fighting for the top of the chair. We decided that i would get it some of the time and she would. We had to be fair.

There was this family in front of us. The one lady just could not stop looking at me. I had an admirer. She was really nice and she even came over and patted me on the head.

The sun started going down. We were getting tired and it was time to go home. Mamita was checking out the area. I like Mamita. She is a little afraid of me but I went over and laid beside her and she pet me. I think she likes me too.

When we left there was all this noise. The quad people were revving their engines. I do not understand why humans like all that noise. I will never understand noisy humans. But mom had to hold me for a little bit because I started shaking. I tried to be brave but it was just too much. But then Juan Carlos brought the car around and I felt safe when we got inside.

I had a great day. I really like the beach. I was amazed when I peed in the sand and it disappeared right away. I liked that. I also liked the fish. I enjoyed the attention I got when people saw me laying on moms lounge chair, especially when I was hiding under the towel, and they did not expect to see me on the chair. Everyone treated me really nice. But, it sure was nice getting back home where I know I am safe. I do want to go to the beach again soon.

This time we headed up the hill to China Town.

The big statues frightened me at first but I got used to them. Maybe because they were giant cats. Cats do not make me nervous but if I saw a cat this size I would run away…

I am getting very brave.

We were walking near the Mercado Modelo. On Sunday there are not hardly any cars or people on this street so I am feel relaxed and calm. The only problem was that some big dog fell in love with me and was following me around. Every time we looked at him he turned his head pretending he was not following us.

Then we went past the Fire Station. The Bomberos were outside and they were not very friendly but I did get my picture taken near the old firetruck sitting outside.

We went to Parque Independencia so I could see where the founding fathers of Dominican Republic are honored.

Then we walked to the Door of the Count or Puerta del Conde.

The guard was nervous because I was standing too close. He was afraid of me, The Dominican Dog. Imaging that. But he finally let me have a picture taken with him and he even patted my head when he realized I was nice.

Then we went to a Colmado. I got some ice and mom got a beer. We also got a little cheese cheese to munch on. I like Colmados as much as my mom does.

Then we headed toward home stopping in moms park, Parque San Jose to visit her old neighbors for a little bit. I just jumped up on the bench next to mom, laid down and relaxed. I was just watching the pigeons and the people passing by because I was tired out after our long walk.

Now next Sunday April 1st is my birthday. Wonder where we will go walking to then…

Mom and I already knew that we dogs are smart. We know words and sign language. We can read our humans movements, gestures and many times their thoughts just by their facial expressions.

I have only been training my mom for almost 2 months and she knows how to read my thoughts so why in this world could I not know her thoughts and what she will do even before she does it? (sorry mom, lol)

I went to Casa Reales. They were so nice to me. They said when there are not many visitors to the museum I can come in and check it out. They have the traditional Nativity Creche scene. The Mother Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus in the manger with the angel flying overhead. It was really pretty but moms camera just would not take a good picture so they are a little cloudy. She did not want to put them up but I told her that they were better than nothing and that if she was a good girl I would let her take me back and try for some better pictures. But, she has to be a really good mom or I won’t go there.

The big Christmas Tree by Coca-Cola is up at Plaza España. Mom says they do it every year but this is the first time I have seen it. It is really pretty and big. Wow! I wanted to go to Harry’s Bar and sit for a while, they are nice to me there, but mom wanted to keep walking.

Mom and I walked around some more and came back to the Plaza when it was getting dark on our way home. We got to see the tree all lit up. The lights were so bright and pretty. I liked the top where it looked like the lights were dripping. There was a group of kids singing and talking on a stage. Mom tried to take a picture but none came out very good.

I was happy to get home. We made it just in time before the fire works started. I do not like them very much so I was happy that I could hide away in my house for all those banging noises. Mom and I had a fun time. I hope there will be more Christmas pictures coming soon.

I think I smelt a pirate. Mom said Sir Francis Drake destroyed this place and took over Santo Domingo around the year 1586 so maybe thats who I caught a whiff of. Cannot believe my sniffer works from that far back.

Mom said the main part of this monastery started being built in 1509. I really could care less about all those dates and stuff. All I know is the place is really old the same as most of the Zona Colonial. It looks really cool too.

I thought it was interesting to see all those birds mom called pigeons all over the building. Mom said the park that I was in the neighbors call it pigeon park so maybe thats why all those birds are there. I am wondering where is the dog park (I can make a joke too).

There are all sorts of strange rocks laying around the yard here. I wanted to check it out but mom said she did not want me going in there this visit. I think the place is haunted. I was a little nervous and it was not because of all the people and dogs around. This picture has two shadows on the far fence. Maybe they are ghosts??
