Anyhow, my friend Juan Carlos who has a taxi business called JC Taxi, said he would take us in his taxi. We picked up Mamita, my moms great friend, and we were off. I have not been in a car for a long time and I was a little afraid to get in but once we started on our way I was enjoying it.

When we got to the beach I was so enjoying the sand on my toes. I think I come from beach dogs because it just felt so right to be there. I am a Caribbean dog.

I went to the water and bounced around there for a few minutes with mom but I need to work my way into getting used to it. It was fun and I can’t wait to really get into some swimming sometime soon.

We checked things out and I got to take in all the beach smells. There were a few local dogs trying to check me out but the man that takes care of the chairs liked me and he made those doggies go away. I felt very special.

Then we decided to eat. Mom and Mamita got fish. It smelt so good. Mom shared some of hers with me.

Then she had to play with the ugly fish head. She can be so silly at times. She told me I had to kiss the fish head. I did it just to get her and that nasty fish head out of my face. Moms…..whats a Teli to do with them…? hehe..

After we ate we decided to rest a bit. I had to be on the lounge chair. Me and mom were fighting for the top of the chair. We decided that i would get it some of the time and she would. We had to be fair.

There was this family in front of us. The one lady just could not stop looking at me. I had an admirer. She was really nice and she even came over and patted me on the head.

The sun started going down. We were getting tired and it was time to go home. Mamita was checking out the area. I like Mamita. She is a little afraid of me but I went over and laid beside her and she pet me. I think she likes me too.

When we left there was all this noise. The quad people were revving their engines. I do not understand why humans like all that noise. I will never understand noisy humans. But mom had to hold me for a little bit because I started shaking. I tried to be brave but it was just too much. But then Juan Carlos brought the car around and I felt safe when we got inside.

I had a great day. I really like the beach. I was amazed when I peed in the sand and it disappeared right away. I liked that. I also liked the fish. I enjoyed the attention I got when people saw me laying on moms lounge chair, especially when I was hiding under the towel, and they did not expect to see me on the chair. Everyone treated me really nice. But, it sure was nice getting back home where I know I am safe. I do want to go to the beach again soon.

She was doing laundry and when she was not looking I stole the plastic cover for the spinner. I took it to the bed and waited to see how long it took her to ask me where it was.

I could hear her out there moving the machine to see underneath. I heard her looking all around. She was even asking herself (yes, she sometimes talks to herself which took me a little getting used to – don’t tell her I shared that bit of information please)where it could have gone.

I was laying in the bed holding the cover waiting. I was really enjoying this.

Finally she came into the bedroom to get more clothes and there I was. Thank goodness she laughed and did not get angry with me. My joke worked! I’ll have to think of more jokes to pull on her now and just hope she thinks they are equally as funny.

I can even say how old I am, barking of course. I am not that good that I can talk like a human at least not yet. Mom took the video to prove it to my family and friends.

Mom greeted me in the morning, after our morning walk with a big cow foot bone. She also had to put some paper hat on my head. I took it off the first time but mom put it back on. She said it was just for a few pictures so I decided to endure it for her and her pictures.

I stuck my tongue out at mom because she made me endure the hat. I did not think she saw it but it showed up on this picture. I was caught!

We went out for our Sunday Walk-About but I really did not feel like walking too much. I just was not in the mood this week.

We ended up running into my friend Chino and he was so happy tat it was my birthday he wanted a picture taken with me. He also gave me some ham.

Then we walked a little more. I kept turning toward home but mom was heading the opposite direction. She told me we would go to one more park then home. It was OK because I have some friends there and I was thinking they would probably give me a birthday present.

Two of the girls were there. They wished me Feliz Cumpliaños by giving me a big red flower to wear. The picture did not show the flower stuck in my collar.

After visiting with them we came home. Mom wanted to take me out to a restaurant to eat but I did not feel like it. Mom did as I wished and we came home. I wanted to eat my bone and relax near the fan. I had a great birthday.

This time we headed up the hill to China Town.

The big statues frightened me at first but I got used to them. Maybe because they were giant cats. Cats do not make me nervous but if I saw a cat this size I would run away…

I am getting very brave.

We were walking near the Mercado Modelo. On Sunday there are not hardly any cars or people on this street so I am feel relaxed and calm. The only problem was that some big dog fell in love with me and was following me around. Every time we looked at him he turned his head pretending he was not following us.

Then we went past the Fire Station. The Bomberos were outside and they were not very friendly but I did get my picture taken near the old firetruck sitting outside.

We went to Parque Independencia so I could see where the founding fathers of Dominican Republic are honored.

Then we walked to the Door of the Count or Puerta del Conde.

The guard was nervous because I was standing too close. He was afraid of me, The Dominican Dog. Imaging that. But he finally let me have a picture taken with him and he even patted my head when he realized I was nice.

Then we went to a Colmado. I got some ice and mom got a beer. We also got a little cheese cheese to munch on. I like Colmados as much as my mom does.

Then we headed toward home stopping in moms park, Parque San Jose to visit her old neighbors for a little bit. I just jumped up on the bench next to mom, laid down and relaxed. I was just watching the pigeons and the people passing by because I was tired out after our long walk.

Now next Sunday April 1st is my birthday. Wonder where we will go walking to then…

I always get nervous at the door of the building where we live getting ready to go out to the street. I shake a little but I know it is OK. It is that my body does not realize it is OK yet.

We went to visit the Monument of Montecinos first. Crossing the Malecon is a little scary but on Sundays there is not much traffic so I was brave. We got to the Plaza with the giant statue of Frey Anton de Montecinos, the protector of the Indians, sitting on top. Mom let my leash go free because she has more confidence in me now because I return to her when she yells “ TELI COME”, even if I do not want to come I know I will have more freedom if I listen so I try really hard to obey.

There were some interesting paintings on the walls called DE MI Barrio. I was more interested in looking over the edge at the Caribbean Sea.

Mom was taking pictures and I was enjoying sniffing around.

I even got to walk on the big cement tablet that had important writing on it.

A lady and her son came over to say hello to me. They were very nice. I liked looking out the open window into the port across the way. There were lots of interesting activities going on there.

Then we headed up to the 3rd floor or get up close to the statue on top but we never made it. Mom was walking behind me when I saw another big open window. It was a bit high and I wanted to see over. I thought I would just jump up on the ledge to see over. That was a really stupid idea. I mis-judged the jump and went flying. I was like a bird without wings! I jumped off the place between the 2nd and 3rd floor!
If you look closely mom put an arrow on the window I jumped from. The window below it is the one in the picture with me looking out the window.

In a flash I hit the ground. Thank God it was a little soft. I squealed when I hit. It knocked the wind out of me. I stood up slowly as I heard my mom scream over the wall “Teli”! Then she was gone.

I stretched out my front legs to make sure all was still connected and started walking. I did not know where I was going to but I know I needed to walk. Then I heard my moms voice echoing coming down the stairs yelling my name. I went to meet her.

She was shaking as much as I was. She was crying. She sat down on the ground next to me. She touched me lightly. Telling me she loved me. She was feeling my legs, my back, my ribs, my neck and head. She got a little drop of blood on her hand from my mouth and I thought she was going to faint. I gave her a little kiss to tell her it was OK. She cried more.

The lady with the boy came running to see if I was OK. She said a little prayer for me. That was so special. My mom told her to check my blog to see how I was. Then mom and I went to the sand beach area to sit for a little bit because both mom and I were shaking and could not walk.

Mom checked me again and found a little spot on my leg that had a few little cuts on it. I had some mud on my side, dirt on my nose and I was a little sore. She even got my treats out and made sure my eyes followed the little snack. Then we left the beach.

Mom tried to carry me up the stairs but she could not do it. I wanted to walk anyhow. I really did not hurt that much. She did carry me across the Malecon. We walked to my park and she sat and checked me again. She told some of the neighbors what happened and they were amazed that I seemed to be OK. Then we went home. I walked slowly up the stairs.

Mom lifted me into the bed and gave me some water. She lay down with me until I looked rested.

Then she came out and posted the pics on Facebook so people could pray for me.

Now, 2 days later I am just fine. I am a little sore. I cannot chew on my bones because it hurts my mouth a little bit. I am sure that in a few more days I will be back at my bone collection. Maybe next week we can try the Malecon walk-about again and finish taking pictures of that big statue of Montecino.

Thank you to the lady that prayed for me when I took the jump. Thank you to my Facebook friends who cared and prayed for me. I still cannot believe that I fell that far and am not hurt. I think Gods arms caught me at the bottom and stopped me from hitting the ground. He does watch out for us animals too.

I offer my paw to shake to all for thinking of me!

After a time the movie stopped and there was no movement from the living room. I decided I best go investigate.

Mom was laying sleeping on the sofa and the movie was over. I went and looked out the window to see what was happening in the street. Nothing. So I went to look at mom. I went up to her face to sniff and see what was up. As I got close her eyes opened.

She yelled a sort of wow type yell, it was not a scream. When she yelled she jumped then I jumped! We were both looking at each others faces close up with our eyes open in a sort of fright shock type look. All I could think to do was t give mom a big kiss on her face to let her know I thought it was funny.

When I gave this little kiss she hugged me. Then she started laughing so hard. I was laughing too in the doggy way. This made her get up and we went to bed. Every time she looked at me she started laughing remembering the look on my face when she scared me and how we both jumped. she was still laughing about it this morning. She is giggling as I am dictating this story to her right now….will she ever get over it??!!

I cannot figure out humans but I sure do love them, especially my mom!

Theres a nice place where I like to sniff around in the grass where it is nice and calm where I can watch humans and still feel safe. After I do some sniffing I like to lay down in the grass, relax and look around.

This day there were strange humans dressed up in different costumes walking by. I was checking these strange looking things out when a camera crew came into my space along with some smelly black humans. They smelt like a car that is dripping oil. When I see a puddle of black motor oil on the street, this is what they smelt like. It was not pleasing to my sensitive snout. I gave mom the look “What the heck is that” and she explained that it was a Carnival group called Los Tiznaos or in English The Stained Ones. They smear black motor oil on their bodies and ask humans for money. A very strange human custom for sure.

Anyhow, these oily black humans were posing for pictures when one of them came over and tried to scare me.

One human looking man came near to me and mom and growled at us making a yucky face. His friends were laughing at him because he was being silly. He did not frighten me at all. I was brave.

I was just wondering why in the world would these humans paint themselves in such a way. But, I have learned that humans are not easy to figure out. I only need to accept them for all their strangeness and weird quirks. Gotta love’em.

I walked down Calle El Conde for a block. I was proud. I did not get afraid like before. Someday I will walk the entire Conde street.

I ate some ice in Parque Duarte and was feeling good so mom took me to the Feria Artesanal in Plaza Bartolome de las Casas. Lots of cool art work is for sale there by the artists that made the stuff.

Mom made me a long leash so I could have a little more freedom. I was playing hide and seek. Can you find me?

I liked the little booths and the colors. People painted their booths so pretty and artistic.

The statue was really big of the guy, Bartolome de las Casas, who the plaza was named after.

I really enjoyed the long leash and being able to sniff around.

I even made a friend. She was really nice and we played a little bit.

Mom took some pictures of her and I. We only had 1 picture of us together so she took some holding the camera out in front of us.

After we left the Plaza we walked for a few more hours. We stopped in one place where they are nice to me. They talk to me and pay attention to me and give me snacks. We do not remember the name of the Colmado but I like it there.

I had another glass of ice and got sooo tired. I could hardly keep my eyes open. People were laughing at me with my eyes closing and my head bobbing up and down.

Finally mom said it was time to go home. We were out for about 6 hours walking around, talking to friends and making new ones. It was a good day. I cannot wait to do it again.

We went through the Plaza at the statue of Monticino and mom said they really cleaned it up. She said we will take pictures of it another day. The beach is in front of the big statue. Mom is not sure of the name so she just calls it Playa at Montecino.

When we got there there were a few people there. There were a few nuns in their blue dresses looking at the water. There were 2 unformed guard type men in the parking lot. You could look up the coastline and see the big buildings and I even saw a ship in the Caribbean Sea.


A group of kids came and started talking to mom about me. A few did not smell good, I thought they were looking for trouble. But there were two that were very nice and talked to me. I let one pat my head for a second. Then they took off their clothes and went swimming. Two of the kids went into the water naked! Thank goodness mom said the pictures came out blurry so we could not see those boys bare butts.

The waves were a little rough and the noise of the crashing water frightened me a little. I was brave and did not run away and enjoyed sniffing the sand and the trees and buses around the area. I did not want to get near the water. Maybe another day when I get braver.

Then mom and I walked around a little bit. We stopped to talk to friends at Parque San Jose where mom used to live. We then continued on with the walk.

It started raining really hard. I never got stuck in hard rain before. I was afraid and the big umbrella mom had did not do much good. We ran for a doorway. I was shaking. The other people in the door thought I was cold but I was just shaking because I was afraid. But mom hugged me and told me all was OK. Finally the rain stopped and we walked some more.

We ended up in Parque Duarte (the good picture is in the other post about Duarte Day). I liked smelling the flower wreaths that were in front of the statue of Duarte. Everything was wet and fresh and clean, including mom and I.

After this we headed home. It was a good walk-about.
