Walk-About Checking Out The Feria Artesanal

Mom and I took a big walk-about today. We went up the hill by the wall of the Colonial Zone. There was a big bus filled with people carrying drums, trumpet horns, costumes and being noisy. They started making more noise and I got afraid. they were doing a promotion for Carnival. I wanted no part of it! Too much noise and crazy people for me. Mom was nice and got me away from there FAST!

I walked down Calle El Conde for a block. I was proud. I did not get afraid like before. Someday I will walk the entire Conde street.

I ate some ice in Parque Duarte and was feeling good so mom took me to the Feria Artesanal in Plaza Bartolome de las Casas. Lots of cool art work is for sale there by the artists that made the stuff.

Mom made me a long leash so I could have a little more freedom. I was playing hide and seek. Can you find me?

I liked the little booths and the colors. People painted their booths so pretty and artistic.

The statue was really big of the guy, Bartolome de las Casas, who the plaza was named after.

I really enjoyed the long leash and being able to sniff around.

I even made a friend. She was really nice and we played a little bit.

Mom took some pictures of her and I. We only had 1 picture of us together so she took some holding the camera out in front of us.

After we left the Plaza we walked for a few more hours. We stopped in one place where they are nice to me. They talk to me and pay attention to me and give me snacks. We do not remember the name of the Colmado but I like it there.

I had another glass of ice and got sooo tired. I could hardly keep my eyes open. People were laughing at me with my eyes closing and my head bobbing up and down.

Finally mom said it was time to go home. We were out for about 6 hours walking around, talking to friends and making new ones. It was a good day. I cannot wait to do it again.

First Time To the Local Beach

It was a very quiet day on Monday as it was a holiday. It was not Juan Pablo Duartes’ birthday but it is the day the government in Dominican Republic said we needed to celebrate the day of our founding father. So the roads were empty of traffic. The Avenida George Washington, better known as the Malecon in Santo Domingo, was empty of cars. Mom said it is dangerous to cross that road and since I am a little nervous she does not want to stress me out trying to cross a busy road. So this day was perfect for us to cross the road and visit the beach.

We went through the Plaza at the statue of Monticino and mom said they really cleaned it up. She said we will take pictures of it another day. The beach is in front of the big statue. Mom is not sure of the name so she just calls it Playa at Montecino.

When we got there there were a few people there. There were a few nuns in their blue dresses looking at the water. There were 2 unformed guard type men in the parking lot. You could look up the coastline and see the big buildings and I even saw a ship in the Caribbean Sea.

A group of kids came and started talking to mom about me. A few did not smell good, I thought they were looking for trouble. But there were two that were very nice and talked to me. I let one pat my head for a second. Then they took off their clothes and went swimming. Two of the kids went into the water naked! Thank goodness mom said the pictures came out blurry so we could not see those boys bare butts.

The waves were a little rough and the noise of the crashing water frightened me a little. I was brave and did not run away and enjoyed sniffing the sand and the trees and buses around the area. I did not want to get near the water. Maybe another day when I get braver.

Then mom and I walked around a little bit. We stopped to talk to friends at Parque San Jose where mom used to live. We then continued on with the walk.

It started raining really hard. I never got stuck in hard rain before. I was afraid and the big umbrella mom had did not do much good. We ran for a doorway. I was shaking. The other people in the door thought I was cold but I was just shaking because I was afraid. But mom hugged me and told me all was OK. Finally the rain stopped and we walked some more.

We ended up in Parque Duarte (the good picture is in the other post about Duarte Day). I liked smelling the flower wreaths that were in front of the statue of Duarte. Everything was wet and fresh and clean, including mom and I.

After this we headed home. It was a good walk-about.

Duarte Day 2012

Mom could not take me to see the bands playing in the parks for Duarte Day. I am still afraid of all the people and noise. I am trying to be brave but it just takes time. Mom says I am doing much better. Someday I want to not be afraid and go to all the good things happening in the Colonial Zone and stand tall. It will happen. It just takes time. Mommy is still being patient with me.

I went to see the statue of Juan Pable Duarte today in Parque Duarte in the Colonial Zone to pay homage to one of the founding fathers of my country. República Dominicana. I love Dominican Republic and I also like sitting in Duarte Park. ¡Viva Duarte!

The Bark Side Video

I was laying on the sofa last night with mom and this commercial came on. It made me lift my ears to hear just what was going on. I am not sure if I understand what the barking dogs have to do with Volkswagen but I still liked it. I like the guy that walks by at the end. He is too funny.

The Bark Side: 2012 Volkswagen Game Day Commercial Teaser

My mom loves Star Wars and she said she saw Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, C-3P0, R2-D2, Princess Leia, Chewbaca, Yoda, Darth Vader, a cute Ewock and of course the At At. Mom says they are barking – singing Darth Vader’s theme song, The Imperial March.

My mom said she might just have to watch the game so she can see the entire commercial.

Are Dogs Like Babies?

My mom told me about this article on CesarsWay.com, The Dog Whisperer, she read today.

“A new study from Current Biology in Hungary completed a study that shows dogs respond to eye contact and verbal and nonverbal cues from humans similarly to human children in the two-year-old range who haven’t started talking. The study helps prove that dogs are more attuned with our energy, tone of voice, and other nonverbal behaviors than we might have imagined.” Read the article Are Dogs Like Babies for yourself.

Mom and I already knew that we dogs are smart. We know words and sign language. We can read our humans movements, gestures and many times their thoughts just by their facial expressions.

I have only been training my mom for almost 2 months and she knows how to read my thoughts so why in this world could I not know her thoughts and what she will do even before she does it? (sorry mom, lol)

I am Teli, The Dominican Dog and I approve this post.
