The second concert is on Saturday, May 4,2013 in the Plaza España, Zona Colonial, Santo Domingo. This must attend Jazz spectacular starts at 7:30PM and is completely free.

Caribbean Jazz Festival first weekend in May 2013

This event was created to celebrate International Jazz day created by UNESCO yearly on April 30. Jazz Day is to promote the union of Nations through music, creating the opportunity for interaction between renowned musicians of the United States, the Dominican Republic and the countries of the Caribbean to tour each year and give us all some great music.

This years high-energy show will include Latin Grammy Nominees Ed Calle (saxophone) and Jose Negronis (piano) along with Sly de Moya (drums) and July Monte (bass).

Jazzeando – Retro Jazz in Concert

Noted producer, arranger and musician, Pengbian Sang presents his new album titled “Jazzeando el cancionero dominicano”, a jazz tribute to Dominican artists. Sang says that this production is an effort to honor the Dominican composers, for which they have selected 12 songs from various Dominican artists including, Juan Luis Guerra, Rafael Solano, Mickey Tavrras, Anthony Ríos, Leonor Porcela de Brea, Anthony Cabrera, Luisito Segura, Manuel Sánchez Acosta and more.

The Retro Jazz musicians are: Federico Méndez – guitar, Remi Taveras – drums, Edgar Molina – percussion, Álvaro Denzey – keyboards and Jesús Abréu – saxophone, Laura Rivera – vocals and of course Pengbian Sang make up the group plus guest artists. They are giving a new jazzy life to these songs they are putting in this album.

The first concert is on Tuesday, March 12, at 8:30 pm at the Sala Máximo Avilés Blonda in the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Santo Domingo. Ticket prices are $500 and $800 RDPesos.

The second concert is in Santiago de Los Caballeros on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 8:30 pm in the Gardens of the Teatro Regional Cibao. Entry is free.

Then the last concert will be in Santo Domingo on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 8:30 pm in the Colonial Zone in Plaza España. This concert is free.

The concert will also be to celebrate Groupo Niches’ 30th anniversary and to commemorate the first anniversary of the death Jairo Valera, founder of the Colombian band. Varela always spoke of his love for the Dominican Republic so they decided to celebrate here.

Un Dia Despues – Grupo Niche

Sept. 9 thousands of people around the planet will meditate at the same time joining together for world peace. This massive meditation is organized by the Art of Living Foundation/ Fundación El Arte de Vivir.

There will be over 300 cities in different countries participating in this massive moment of silence. It will be a mass meditation for a society full of love and acceptance.

Here in Dominican Republic all people wanting to participate in this world wide event need to meet in PLAZA ESPAÑA in the Colonial Zone, Santo Domingo on Sunday September 9 at 5:00PM. If you wish bring something to sit on.

The event is free and open to everyone. It will consist of practical kinds of breathing techniques and guided meditation. No previous experience required.

The Coleccionistas Dominicanos de Autos Antiguos will be organizing the event with the Vespa Club Dominicano and invited guests from Puerto Rico, Club Duenos de Autos Antiguos de San Juan. They will be showing United States and European vehicles.

Saturday June 23 and Sunday June 24 at the Plaza España in the Colonial Zone, Santo Domingo there will be lots of Classic and Antique cars for all the see. This free exhibition will run from 10AM to 10PM.

“Santo Domingo de Fiesta” is the weekly arts program presented by the Secretary of State for Tourism and Culture of Dominican Republic/ las secretarías de Estado de Turismo y de Cultura de República Dominicana featuring prominent national and international artists, as well as the consistent participation of folkloric dancing and music. Sitting in the Colonial City in Plaza Espana in front of the Columbus Palace with the lights shining onto the old restored home is an experience in itself. Listening to Dominican artists and watching the performances in this environment is very special and should not be missed. If you are here in the Zona Colonial this is a must see so you can experience a small taste of the Dominican culture, dance and music.

This folkloric festival has had many well known artists preform on their free stage including Patricia Pereyra, Sonia Silvestre, Rhina Ramírez, Juan Luis Joa, Luchy Vicioso, Ileana Reynoso, Francis Santana, Niní Cáffaro, Miriam Cruz, Roldán, Xiomara Fortuna, Sergio Vargas, el maestro Jorge Taveras y su grupo, Frank Valdez, Vickiana and other well known Dominican musicians for the enjoyment of Dominicans and Tourists alike. They even had a presentation of the Nutcracker Suite with the National Ballet of Spain.

This festival is part of the celebrations dedicated to the year of African descent. This years event is dedicated to Liborio Mateo. A popular spiritual guide, healer and leader who defended the rights of the peasants to protect their land when the U.S. troops first invaded the country in 1916.

Performing will be Los Niños de Capotillo, Enerolisa & Su Grupo de Salves, Geo Ripley & Los Tambores del Ancestro, Tone Vicioso & Aumbata y Grupo Maniel.
