The first part has many scenes from the Colonial Zone including Grupo Bonyé playing at the Ruinas de San Franacisco. I saw many of my friends and neighbors. Professor Gates shares much of the history of the entire island and why it became separated.

The ship poisoning our air in the Colonial Zone – picture thank you Harriet Wiese

For over a year, in Santo Domingo Port Sansouci (Colonial Zone), a barge moors here processing pitch, the raw material used for the production of asphalt. The processing of this substance, performed at high temperatures leads to the emission of highly toxic gases series with dire consequences for the health of people.

Gatorade 10K 2013

The big race for all will be held on Sunday March 10, 2013 starting at 4:30PM. The race begins at Plaza Juan Barón located on the Malecón (avenida George Washington) in Santo Domingo.

Gatorade 10K will benefit the Fundación Deja Tu Huella / Make Your Mark Foundation. All the entry fees will be donated to the program that will benefit thousands of poor Dominican children. So even if you do not run you can register and donate to this wonderful cause.

I will post more details about registration and the route as soon as they are available.

*Interesting how the heading of the article says he died in 1991 but (text in the article says it actually occurred in 1990) at the age of 99 years. A funeral service officiated in secrecy only four people attended.

*Did Wenceslao Tejada, who looked like Trujillo, did in his place?
